The Holy Spirit is integral and indispensable in the salvation of souls. The Holy Spirit was promised unto us - and given unto us by the Father. The Holy Spirit is also the fulfiller and bringer of promises. The Holy Spirit is our Guide and our Comforter.
SCRIPTURE READING: Acts 2
Holy Spirit of Promise
Text: Ephesians 1:13-14
The Holy Spirit is necessary unto Salvation. One cannot be saved without the Work of the Holy Spirit. It is impossible to See Spiritual things without Spiritual Sight. And it is impossible to Know Spiritual things without Spiritual Knowledge. How do we receive Spiritual things? We receive Life, Sight, and Knowledge through the Quickening Power of the Presence of the Holy Spirit. Without the Holy Spirit none of this would be possible. The Holy Spirit is promised to those who believe. And, the Holy Spirit is the Promiser of so much more to come! Jn. 3:3-8
Misconceptions Concerning the Holy Spirit
The World today, has many misconceptions and even heretical teachings concerning the Holy Spirit. Some portions (denominations) of Christianity believe that the Holy Spirit is only truly present in one when he demonstrates Tongues or some other Sign such as the Holy Spirit performed in the early New Testament. I believe that the Holy Spirit never performed Signs and Wonders in the early New Testament as the sign of Salvation, but rather He gave visible evidence of the fact that God was working through the Church. The Holy Spirit does not baptize anyone unto salvation. Nor does the Holy Spirit baptize any into the Church. Rather, it is because of the Leadership of the Holy Spirit that we are each baptized into the Local Church. Acts 8:17-23; 1Cor. 12:13, 28; Eph. 4:5
The Presence of the Holy Spirit was Promised
The Holy Spirit was given unto God’s people as a result of the Promises that had been made. The promise was given that the Holy Spirit would come in Power. Since this Promise of the Holy Spirit was delivered unto all that were saved – whether Jew or Gentile – we must conclude that the Presence of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament signifies the end of the Unique and Singular, Physical Relationship that the LORD God had with Israel. The introduction into the Kingdom of God – and birth into the Family of God – is accomplished through the New Birth – being Born Again through the Power of the Holy Spirit. The Kingdom of the Lord is now come in Spirit rather than in Physical form. Though there will one day be a physical Kingdom of Jesus Christ – when He will set on a throne and rule the entire world – that time is not yet. Joel 2:28-32; Deut. 7:6; Amos 3:1-3; Rom. 9:4-8; Jn. 3:5-8; Lk. 17:20-21; Jn. 18:36; Acts 1:4-8
The Presence of the Holy Spirit Promises More
One day we will not only See these spiritual things from a distance, and Know these spiritual things from a distance, but we will be able to Experience these Spiritual things without the Restraints and Limitations of the Flesh. What a wonderful thought to consider! The fact that the Holy Spirit is Present with us, is Evidence that we will one day See more fully the things that we See now, and know perfectly what we know now in part. 1Jn. 3:2; 1Cor. 13:12
Purchased Possession
The Holy Spirit is the Down Payment or Earnest of the Completed Adoption Process of the Individual Saint of God. Each of those who are saved, are bought with a price, and are become the persons and possessions of God. The Holy Spirit living in us is the proof and the evidence of that. In addition, when we consider that the Holy Spirit of Promise is the evidence and even the earnest of the Purchased Possession – it might also be considered that the Purchased Possession could be referenced to the Churches of Jesus Christ. Each of these Churches is the Body of Christ. And these are indwelt by the Holy Spirit of Promise. Rom. 8:23-25; 2Cor. 5:1-5; Acts 20:28
