In a world of uncertainty, we need the Word of God to guide us and sustain us. We need the Incarnate Word of God - Jesus Christ - to save us. We need the Light that comes from above to guide us while we are here below.
SCRIPTURE READING: Acts 18
Knowing the Way
Text: Acts 18:24-26
We live in a world that is overcome with uncertainty, confusion, lies, and deceit. It is very difficult to find one’s way, no matter who, what, when, or where. All of our circumstances and the environment in which we live, seems designed to cultivate and increase the confusion and uncertainty that reigns in our societies. How can one know what is truth and what is lies? How can one know which is right and which is wrong? How can one know who to trust and who to doubt? This uncertainty, doubt, confusion, and deceit is no where more evident than in the world of religion. Men and women will worship and serve the creature more than the Creator. Certainly, in such a time as ours there is a need for Baptist Churches and families to set an example, and to show the way unto Jesus Christ and the Scriptural Worship of God and His Son.
Knowing Jesus Christ
There is no possibility of Knowing the Way in a Christian or Heavenly sense, without Knowing Jesus Christ. He is the Way! There is no embarking on this Way – there is no passage into Heaven, or knowledge of the Father – without going through and by the Person and the Work of Jesus Christ. There is salvation only in the Name of Jesus Christ! And, there is no other Way to please God, and there is no other Way to Serve Him. Jn. 14:5-6; Acts 4:10-13; Mt. 11:27-28
A Light for Our Way
As We enter the knowledge and the service of Jesus Christ, there remains a need for us to Know the Way in which we should go. There are decisions to make; there are words to speak; there are actions and deeds to perform; what are we to do? Which direction should we turn? Where is our path? In the flesh, the uncertainties, the doubts, and the confusion of the world will sometimes (often) invade our thoughts and minds, and we may be without proper direction. The Word of God is the Answer! Of course, Jesus Christ is the Word, and therefore, He is the Light for our Way. Ps. 119:1002-108; 27:11; 2Pet. 1:19; Jn. 12:35-26; 8:12
A Guide for Our Way
The Holy Spirit of God is the Guide that will show us the Way. Of course, He will use the Word of God to instruct us, to teach us, to guide us, and to deliver us. He is essential in the process of Knowing the Way! With the Spirit of God in our lives, we are changed from uncertain and useless into certain and useful. The absence of the Spirit of God in the lives of many who pretend to Know the Way, is often very evident to those who are truly led by the Spirit. Conversely, the Presence of the Spirit of God in the lives of those who genuinely seek to Know the Way, and to serve the Lord Jesus Christ, is also very evident to the others who are known by God, and who have the Spirit dwelling within them. Jn. 14:16-18, 26; Rom. 8:12-17; Gal. 5:16-25
Strength to Follow Through
The Way that we travel is not an easy one. We know the Lord Jesus as The Way; we know that His Word is the Light of the Way; we know that the Spirit of God is always a ready and Perfect Guide for the travelers of the Way; and yet, there are difficulties! Time and time again, the frail and foolish ways of the world will oppose us, and (as we spoke about in the beginning) the confusions and uncertainties of the world will creep into our Christian lives. However, it remains for us to focus, to be diligent, and to vigorously and valiantly proceed forward in the Way. 5Prov. 4:25-27; Deut. 31:6; Phil. 2:12-13; Prov. 4:18
