Remember Now Thy Creator

Paul Stepp

Feb 1, 2026

Men and women need God in their lives. We must remind others, and ourselves, of God's importance and our need for Him and the Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ.

SCRIPTURE READING: Ecclesiastes 12; Romans 1

Remember Now Thy Creator

Text: Ecclesiastes 12:1

In our text passage we commanded to remember “Thy Creator,” and we commanded to do so while we are young. The reasons for these commands are included in the rest of the verse: There are evil days coming; men inevitable grow old; and we are inclined to laziness, laxness, or disinterest. These are thoughts that we ought to address, as Christians, so that the evidence of our Remembrance of God are plainly seen by others, and so that we can be encouraged to maintain such attachment unto God and His Ways, as might be displayed by our fidelity unto Him, our obedience unto His word, and our diligence in service unto Him.

Remember Thy Creator

It would be a wonderful way to begin a Revival in this country, simply by Remembering our Creator. He is not just “The Creator”; He is “Our Creator,” or (speaking unto others) “Thy Creator.” How much better would our Schools be, and how much better would our Society be, and how much better would our Government be, if, in every area, we simply acknowledged that God is Thy Creator. I am not even talking about any Doctrinal Depth to the Beliefs and Understandings of these people; really even Salvation is not necessary to Remember Thy Creator – though a remembrance of Him as the Creator of all that we see, might bring to our minds a recognition that He must then be the Creator of all that we do not see – and a consideration of God and our own conditions before Him may be the result! Deut. 4:39; Acts 14:17; 17:22-28; Rom. 1:18-25; Acts 5:42; Job 23:12

Remember Thy Creator While You are Young

The young are strong and can endure. The old are wise. The young should make use of their strength, and in the process grow both old and wise.  Those that are young have more time to do the things of God. They still have what remains of their lives before them. So, humanly speaking, their life expectancy and therefore their opportunity to Serve God, exceeds that of the elderly. Eternity rushes on – we will meet it soon. Those that are young have, perhaps, fewer obligations as far as the flesh goes, and can therefore focus more fully on the Cause of Christ. 1Jn. 2:14; Prov. 20:29; Eph. 5:15-17; Col. 4:5; 1Cor. 7:23

Evil Days Will Come

When I am old I won’t be able to do as much as when I was young. This is the Evil Fate that, perhaps, Solomon is speaking of. Not that Old Age itself is an Evil Fate – surely throughout the Bible the promise of Prosperity and Old Age is something that the Lord assures His faithful people of. But, the Evil Fate that I am speaking of, is that of the Inability to do when we are Old, that which we should have done when we were Young - leaving Good Things Undone; or (after we are old) unable to do Good Things that we were able to do when we were young. Or, perhaps this can refer to Evil Days that may come upon those that are not Faithful and that are Disobedient to their God. In other words, Chastisement may come upon some that do not Remember now their Creator. Eccl. 12:2-7; Jn. 1:1-14

Conclusion

Let me direct your attention to one very important word in our text verse. That word is “now.” There is no excuse for us to keep from serving our God.  There is no window of escape through which we can escape the commandments of God unto us. There is no time better than the present. We cannot go back in time and serve the Lord better. And we cannot wait for times yet to come to commit ourselves more fully unto Him. 2Cor. 6:2; Phil. 2:12-13; Rom. 13:11-14
