The Lord is always on time - the Time is His. We should be ready, willing, and useful. It is always time to serve the Lord!
SCRIPTURE READING: Hosea 10
What Time is It?
Text: Luke 12:56
The Lord Jesus Christ, in our text verse, is speaking to the People of the Jews. And, in this verse, He asks this question: “…how is it that ye do not discern this time?” This seems to be the prevalent attitude of men and women today, and it seems to be the persistent worldly view in every generation of men. Today I would like for us to take this question, and apply it to our own selves, and to our own time. I want us to ask ourselves a series of questions concerning our own Service and Devotion to God, and our own cognizance of just What Time is It?
Is it a Time to Seek Riches?
Unless God will intervene – unless we will bring God and Jesus Christ unto sinners through the preaching of the Gospel – man will always fully follow after the things of this world. The Lord tells us, in the New Testament, that Now is not the Time, and Here is not the Place for us to Seek the Riches of this World. Riches in Heaven are far superior – more valuable, more to be desired, and longer-lasting – than any earthly riches! 2Kings 5:26; Mt. 6:19-21; 10:23-27
Is it a Time to Be at Ease?
Too many are willing to live off of the efforts of others in practical things, and only willing to work at fulfilling their own personal addictions. Should we be lazy? Should we be at our own leisure? When the world of men is teetering on the brink of destruction – is it time for us to take our ease? Hag. 1:4: Amos 6:1-7; Lk. 12:19; Rom. 13:11-14
Is it a Time to Hold our Peace?
Taking our ease may be a product of our own laziness or misdirected vanities; but often we hold our peace – even though we know what we ought to do, and maybe even have a desire to do it – only because we are afraid, intimidated, or otherwise deterred by outside influences. This shouldn’t be the case! If we don’t speak up, if we don’t warn others, than who will? 2Kings 7:9; Isa. 62:1-7; Mk. 10:46-48; Acts 18:9-10
Is it a Time to Be Proud?
Pride adversely affects the lives of even those who seeking to serve the Lord. Remember, we are who we are, and we do what we do in the service of the Lord, only as a result of His Miraculous Love and Grace! We must not build ourselves up, or vainly imagine that God owes us anything based on our persons or accomplishments! At such a time as this, we must cast out pride and humbly do the Will of God, and seek the Favor and Strength of Him Alone! 2Kings 14:1-20; 14: 9-12 2Chornl 15:1-2; 16:1-10; Prov. 3:5; 2Cor. 1:8-10
Is it a Time to Be Joined With the Wicked?
So-called Christianity refrains from offending sinners with the Truth Others have altogether lost the desire to be sanctified to the service of God. They are more in love with the world and the wicked ways of the world, than they are in love with God and (especially) His Word. This must not be the case! We can only save the wicked by “not being like them.” We can only serve the Lord God by “being like Him.” 2Chron.19;1-2; 17:3-10; 20:35-37; 1COr. 6:16-17; 1:10
What Time it Is!
The time that we have is meant to be used up in the service of the Lord – and we may not have much of that Time! The Lord Jesus is coming soon! Or, our own lives may end at any time. We must be about His business with a sense of urgency, and with the anticipation of certain success. Hos. 10:12; Ps. 95:6-8; 1Jn. 2:18; 1Pet. 4:7-11
